Electrical Materials and Applications (EMA) is the first high-level, comprehensive academic journal in the field of electrical engineering materials. This journal is jointly published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology in the UK and State Grid Smart Grid Research Institute Co., Ltd. This publication focuses on interdisciplinary cross research in the field of electrical engineering materials and focuses on reporting the research progress of global electrical insulating materials, electrical magnetic materials, electrical conducting materials, electrical sensing materials, electrical protective materials, and new energy storage materials, as well as the important applications of advanced materials research methods and technologies in design, research and development, and application of electrical engineering materials, striving to open up the entire chain of 'efficient design-advanced experiments-intelligent research and development-large-scale application' of advanced electrical engineering materials. Electrical engineering materials are the basis of electrical equipment and are widely used in the field of power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. Their characteristics directly determine the performance of electrical equipment and electronic devices. Theoretical research and engineering practice show that traditional research and development of electrical engineering materials that focus on improving single properties, such as electrodynamics and magnetism, can no longer meet the rapidly growing demand of human society for advanced electrical equipment and high-precision electronic devices. In the midst of the energy revolution dominated by clean energy, the construction of new types of power systems and energy systems has presented fresh challenges to the development of advanced electrical engineering materials, and there is an urgent need to develop new theories, methods, and paradigms for the research of electrical engineering materials. Under the traction of this demand, after the joint efforts of global researchers, electrical engineering materials are becoming a new research direction in the discipline of electrical engineering, which aims to focus on improving the basic properties of electrical conducting, insulating, magnetic, protective, sensing materials, and developing new energy storage materials through the intersection and integration of electrical engineering and disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, and materials science and to break through the basic bottleneck problems faced in the development of traditional electrical engineering disciplines. Simultaneously, with the development of modern material science and technology, advanced material design and characterisation techniques, artificial intelligence and big data technology, new material preparation and digital manufacturing and other common material technologies are also driving the rapid development of advanced electrical engineering materials. This cross-disciplinary appeal has led to the rapid growth of volume of research in the field of electrical engineering materials and applications. However, most of this research is currently scattered in traditional journals mainly focused on comprehensive material research and a few interdisciplinary research journals, and there are no high-level English-language journals covering the entire chain of 'design-experiment-research and development-application' of electrical engineering materials at home and abroad. In this context, the new journal EMA has emerged as the times require. The design, processing, and evaluation techniques of electrical insulating, magnetic, conducting and semiconducting, sensing, and protective materials, and new energy storage materials. The equipment design, multi-physics field simulation, preparation, and application techniques based on advanced electrical insulating materials, electrical magnetic materials, electrical conducting materials, semiconductors, sensing, protective and energy storage materials. The application of new concept materials and common material technologies in electrical engineering materials. The types of articles published in this journal include original research papers, review articles, and opinion articles. With the strong support of experts in related fields around the world, EMA has formed a high-level editorial board. We are very pleased to invite Professor Huadong Sun of the State Grid Smart Grid Research Institute Co., Ltd., Professor Zhongdong Wang of the University of Manchester in the UK, Professor Jian Kang (Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK, Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, and Foreign Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering) of University College London to serve as the co-editors-in-chief of this journal. At the same time, our editorial board members have a lofty global academic reputation, and their professional knowledge and ability will bring rich research and editorial guidance to the publication and operation of the journal whilst also providing all-round support and a guarantee for high-quality manuscript sources and publication of the journal. Currently, the field of electrical engineering materials and applications is in a rapid development stage and requires continuous support and substantial investment in all aspects. We sincerely welcome researchers from different fields around the world to join hands with us to jointly build this new field. Whether as a reader, author, or reviewer of this journal, your support and cooperation will contribute to a significant investment towards the bright future of the discipline of electrical engineering materials!
