The energy trading structure of Russia is undergoing changes due to the Ukraine war. Historically, Europe has been a significant energy trading partner for Russia. However, as a response to the Ukraine war, Europe has imposed various economic sanctions on Russia and announced a ban on the import of Russian energy. In retaliation, Russia has responded by implementing measures such as discontinuing natural gas supplies to some European countries. As a result, the volume of energy trade between Russia and Europe has reached historically low levels.BR On the other hand, China has capitalized on the energy conflict between the West and Russia, triggered by the Ukraine war. China has significantly increased its purchase of Russian energy at lower costs. There has been a significant surge in energy trade between Russia and China. Active discussions on energy cooperation between Russia and China are underway. with a focus on natural gas. However, practical energy collaboration between the two countries is deepening primarily in the field of petroleum, given that natural gas exists in a gaseous state, requiring facilities and infrastructure for transportation. Therefore, this study analyzes the impact of the Ukraine War on energy cooperation between Russia and China by dividing the natural gas and oil sectors and examines the limitations of energy cooperation between the two countries.
