The role of generative AI in industrial design: enhancing the design process and education

Generative AI's impact on industrial design processes and design knowledge learning was studied with 26 students at National United University. Findings suggest that AI is beneficial for developing creativity in the early design stages, but not recommended for later stages involving adjustments and optimizations. Cross-departmental communication complexity and professional parameters make AI unsuitable for engineering drawing and data handover. AI operation still requires substantial design knowledge, emphasizing the importance of design experience in decision-making.
