One of the initiating events in preeclampsia (PE) is placental ischemia. Rodent models of placental ischemia do not present with vascular endothelial dysfunction, a hallmark of PE. We previously demonstrated a role for leptin in endothelial dysfunction in pregnancy in the absence of placental ischemia.
