The article includes a description of the diversity of issues related to metaphor, resulting from a careful analysis of dozens of European and American studies on metaphor and presents the results of an analytical overview of them. As a result, this analysis includes a number of topical issues. One of them is the development of a theory of metaphor that integrates various approaches (linguistic, cognitive, communicative and pragmatic) to the study of metaphor, replicating the shift to a cognitive-linguistic approach to the analysis of figurative language.
