This paper will approach the use of a system composed by software and hardware capable of accurate modeling all components of the electrical system, including transmission lines (models with variable and frequency-dependent parameters), and reproducing the wave forms up to megahertz on secondary levels. It will be demonstrated the performance of an ultra-high-speed transmission line protection that works in time domain using incremental magnitudes and is based on the principles of traveling waves (TW) to identify and locate a fault. So, an IED will be submitted to hundreds of contingency situations in order to evaluate the performance of protection function based on traveling waves based on the following parameters: correct fault location (errors of at most the transmission tower span length) and protection function delay (values around 1ms). It will also be possible to compare the performance of protection system based on TW with the traditional function based on impedance calculation.
