Generative language models as a crucial phenomenonof media culture at the beginning of the XXI century

The article is devoted to the history, current state and prospects of development of neural networks for generating different types of media content. It presents an academic overview of the main trends in the development and usage of generative services in the context of the development of the modern media sphere at the beginning of 2023. The key trends in the media reception of the explosive popularity of generative algorithms are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the paths of possible changes in media culture through the use of new technologies and algorithmic solutions in the production of media content and in media edutainment. The relevance of the research is due to the extensive functionality of modern neural network generative algorithms and services, as well as the expansion of polymodality of media communications in the field of modern digital media culture. Particular attention is paid to the innovative language model ChatGPT and its current use for various communication, cultural and educational tasks.
