The article discusses the development of the Russian gas industry in the context of sanctions pressure. The question is raised about the need to separate the gas industry into an independent, separate, different from the “oil and gas” for its more efficient functioning. The possibility of creating a number of new industrial and financial enterprises in gas spheare and Russia taking the position of a world leader in this field is substantiated. We recommend the best choice of public and private financing for the development of the industry and explain the price of an investment mistake, as well as priority areas for investment, taking into account innovations, import substitution, including in the IT sector.
