Real-Time Food Waste Monitoring System with IoT Integration

The Population is constantly increasing daily and food is a basic necessity which every human needs. But it is reported that food is most wasted in public places like offices, colleges or any public functions like marriages. In this project, the aim is to showcase a method that can be utilized to determine the quantity of food is being wasted inside of canteens. A load cell and HX711 weight sensor is used to calculate the food which is thrown into the waste bin. The information is passed through IoT analytic platforms like ThingSpeak and a website is built for showing data. The results show that the proposed system is 91% accurate. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system, it has undergone validation through a comparative analysis of the data. i.e. taken manually and the data from cloud. With the help of this proposed method, people can take preventative action to prevent foodwaste.
