The article presents a general analysis of the economic and demographic situation in the regions of the Far North and equivalent territories based on official statistical information from Rosstat. The main research method was economic, including statistical analysis, as well as interpretation of the data obtained. The article presents the work of modern Russian researchers on the problem under study. The results of the study showed a steady dynamics of population decline in these areas of the country. The data demonstrate a decrease in the population of almost all territories belonging to the Far North in the period from 2001 to 2023. It is shown that the only exceptions are the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where the dynamics are positive. The article also provides examples of recent government decisions on the approval of new programs for the socio-economic development of individual constituent entities of the Russian Federation, individual programs, preferential lending to business entities during the construction of socially significant facilities that can improve the living conditions of the population of these territories.
