The ways of achieving the results of various diagnostic methods at diff erent stages of technology development are considered — from the level of the fi rst tractors and combines to modern unmanned complexes. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were solved: the design features and methods for determining the technical condition were considered; a practical analysis of diagnostic methods at diff erent levels was presented using the example of agricultural and truck equipment. It is proved that, despite the availability of all modern technologies, techniques and tools for determining the technical condition, specialists need to resort to various methods, including organoleptic examination, which implies the use of only accumulated experience.
