The article analyzes the main international normative legal acts, which regulate activities in the direction of protection of human rights and freedoms, ratified by Ukraine. It was found that in foreign countries, the International Labor Organization plays a key role in creating safe working conditions and minimizing the negative impact of production on human health and life. It was established that: one of the most dangerous spheres of human activity, which is characterized by increased risks of injury, is professional sports; the problem of sports injuries is exacerbated by the high training and competitive loads of modern sports. The main problematic issues regarding the legal regulation of the researched direction are highlighted. It is theoretically justified that, considering that Ukraine is a member of the International Labor Organization, it should focus on international legal standards in the field of protection of workers from accidents at work and occupational diseases in order to ensure standards of decent work. Accordingly, it should ratify the Convention of the International Labor Organization “On Assistance in Cases of Industrial Injuries” (1964) No. 121. In addition, domestic legislation, in accordance with Art. 2 of the 2006 No. 187 of the Convention “On Basics Contributing to Occupational Safety and Health”, it is necessary to supplement the regulations on the prevention of occupational diseases, as well as accidents (injuries). Statistical data on the costs of treatment of sports injuries in foreign countries were analyzed. It was determined that the causes of sports injuries are directly related to external and internal factors. The main task of sports injury prevention is a detailed analysis (doctor, coach, victim) of the causes and circumstances that caused this or that injury. When preventing sports injuries, it is necessary to take into account the relationship between the state of health of athletes, the level of their functional capabilities and real readiness for effective competitive activity. An important direction in prevention is the rehabilitation of athletes.
