This paper analyses the influence of the increased operating temperature on the performances of five PMSM topologies designed with identical general specifications and constraints. The studied topologies are Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM), Halbach Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (HPMSM), Inlet Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), Spoke Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SIPMSM), and V-shape Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (VIPMSM). The electromagnetic torque, back-EMF, and the permanent magnet magnetic flux density are analysed for four operation temperature levels (20°C, 60°C, 100°C, and 140°C). The analysis provides insights on the aspects to be considered for further development of online detecting, locating, and quantifying the degree of PM demagnetisation in PMSM.
