The purpose of this study is to investigate the features of locally published self-study textbooks for Korean language learners from Russian-speaking regions and suggest the directions for the textbook development. As the number of self-study learners has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic, the necessity of self-study textbook development has increased. However the research on self-study textbooks for Korean learners from Russianspeaking regions is still significantly lacking. Therefore, in this paper four Korean self-study textbooks published locally in Russian-speaking regions were selected with the aim to analyse the book structure in terms of suitability for use by self-study learners. Based on the analysis this study suggests several development directions as follows. Firstly, to attract learners' interest and facilitate their studying process it is necessary to provide various information and devices such as textbook usage manuals, learning plans, study time. Also authentic audio and video materials should be actively used along with attractive and helpful design and visual materials. Nextly, the method of presentation and amount of learning content should be unified and the connection between unit contents should be strengthened. Additionally, cultural education and related activities should be provided in the aspect of comparative culture. Finally, it is necessary to diversify types of practice activities for improving listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, and provide self-evaluation devices that allow learners to check their learning achievements along with devices that provide feedback such as supplementary explanations and additional commentary.
