The study approaches the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR 1115/2023) from the perspective of global sustainability governance, seeking to examine and criticize its effects on Brazilian territory. Given the context of global concern with environmental preservation and the shared need to mitigate the effects of climate change, the research questions the legitimacy of the European regulation to unilaterally impose extraterritorial environmental requirements, particularly regarding the effects of this regulation on agricultural activities developed in Brazil. The general objective of the research is to analyze the European Regulation in order to reveal the effects of the zero deforestation measure in Brazilian territory and the consequent effects on agribusiness. To this end, a qualitative and exploratory approach was used, as well as the bibliographic review technique, based on consultation of laws, scientific articles and international documents relating to the topic. Finally, it is concluded that the European Regulation transcends territorial limits due to a veiled environmental protection standard, unduly interfering in the international trade of agricultural commodities between the European Union and Brazil.
