The Effect of University Students' Learning Engagement, Satisfaction with General Education, and Digital Literacy on Digital Citizenship

Objectives This study aims to examine the influence of university students' learning engagement, satisfaction with liberal arts education, and digital literacy on cultivating a balanced digital citizenship education in the era of digital transformation. Methods From May 20 to June 15, 2023, a survey was conducted involving 390 undergraduate students at University I, located in Incheon Metropolitan City. The data were analyzed using Pearson's product-moment correlation and multiple regression analysis in SPSS 29.0. Results Firstly, it was revealed that high-order and integrated learning in learning engagement, professor-student interaction, and data analysis, learning utilization experience, and digital proficiency collectively explained 65% of the cognitive domain of digital citizenship. Secondly, high-order and integrated learning in learning engagement, effective teaching, active and cooperative learning, diverse group discussions, learning strategies, satisfaction with liberal arts education, and learning utilization experience in digital literacy explained 60% of the normative domain of digital citizenship. Thirdly, high-order and integrated learning in learning engagement, active and cooperative learning, diverse group discussions, learning strategies, satisfaction with liberal arts education, and learning utilization experience in digital literacy explained 67% of the behavioral domain of digital citizenship. Conclusions The findings of this study suggest that the results can be utilized to design education for cultivating digital citizenship at the undergraduate level and enhance the effectiveness of education in this regard.
