The category of “sovereignty” is inherent in the characteristics of the Russian state, this is predetermined by the provisions of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The appeal to this category in the practice of constitutional justice is conditioned by the need to protect against increased threats to the rights and freedoms, security and well-being of society and the state itself. An analysis of the practice of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation shows that the category of “sovereignty” manifests itself and reveals itself in particular legal relations (international, federal, tax, customs, etc.) as a kind of protective mechanism that ensures the preservation of the state and legal system of Russia in conditions of the most acute and dangerous threats of both internal and external origin.
