The study investigates the anti-diabetic effects of ethanol extracts from Cassia occidentalis seeds in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Cassia occidentalis, known for its anti-hepatotoxic and antibacterial properties, has been claimed to have hypoglycemic effects. Acute toxicity studies in Wistar rats revealed reduced food and beverage intake and body weight with the ethanol extract. In diabetic rats, the extract significantly reduced blood glucose levels and promoted regeneration of necrosed kidney and pancreas tissues. Histopathological analysis suggested potential beta cell regeneration in the pancreas. The findings highlight Cassia occidentalis as a potential therapeutic agent for diabetes mellitus.
