Intellectual property education has been established in universities nationwide for more than 10 years. Since 2012, intellectual property education leading university projects (2012-2023, 27 universities) had been operated with the support of the Korean Intellectual Property Office(KIPO) and the Korea Invention Promotion Association(KIPA), and intellectual property has been transplanted into the educational field and has grown in scale. However, in the creation of intellectual property (hereinafter referred to as IP), protection and utilization are fragmented according to the purpose of the result and systematic support and management are far off. In addition, IP-R&D to secure a strong IP portfolio through strategy establishment, technology development, and commercialization of corporate management is not so effective in the undergraduate curriculum of universities because IP is part of the curriculum or convergence major. Universities are playing a profound role in the development of the national industry and economy as a cradle of enhancing IP awareness and culture through intellectual property education, creatin g and utilizing IP, and fostering talents. This has considerable significance in terms of policy for establishing a master plan for national intellectual property. It is of paramount importance to raise awareness of intellectual property education at the national level and to establish the foundation for cultural diffusion. From a long-term point of view, IP-based multidisciplinary convergence and integrated education platforms can be established and reborn as a bridgehead for IP creation and utilization through the second phase of the IP education leading university project(tentative name “IP education leading university plus”) and “strengthening the university’s IP dedicated organization(OTC: Office of Technology Commercialization) capabilities.”
