Abstract Introduction In emerging economies, the predominant business entities are small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), grappling with significant hurdles in adhering to occupational health and safety regulations. Materials and Methods This study combines a scrutiny of the legal framework with on-the-ground observations, providing a comprehensive analysis of the existing scenario. Results An exhaustive examination of the main challenges confronted by SMEs in implementing occupational health and safety laws sheds light on the intricacies of compliance. Conclusions The identified challenges underscore the imperative need for a reevaluation of both the legal framework and operational practices. This study advocates for a strategic revision to enhance the efficacy of existing laws and ensure their practicality for SMEs. The findings call for a proactive approach to address these challenges, fostering a safer and healthier working environment in emerging economies.
