Health and equity impacts from transportation noise

Transportation noise is a widespread issue throughout the developed world and is some places is considered a more significant issue than crime. The World Health Organization (WHO) has evaluated the effects of transportation noise on public health in Europe, however, there is no equivalent research in the United States. This paper evaluates transportation noise exposure in the United States, compares this exposure to WHO recommendations, and identifies population groups that are most likely to be affected through a case study. This study uses publicly available resources from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the Environmental Protection agency.
