The aim of the study is to reconstruct the notion of history in philosophical works by M. K. Mamardashvili as an authentic form of human existence. The author of the paper focuses on the fact that the most important concept of the thinker’s philosophizing is “aesthetic existentialism”, which is substantial and allows us to reveal and thematize all lines of philosophical reflection by M. K. Mamardashvili. Realizing the multivariability of interpretations of history, its active, procedural nature, the thinker emphasizes the original ambivalence of the historical: the possibility of world history in a global sense and “personal history” associated with it, not in a biographical, but in an existential way. The scientific novelty of the study lies in reconstructing M. K. Mamardashvili’s views on historical issues through the lens of the thinker’s “aesthetic existentialism”; in substantiating the importance of understanding the historical process as an authentic form of human self-realization. As a result of the study, it is proved that M. K. Mamardashvili’s approach to the notion of history is responsive (it is an appeal). In the “aesthetic existentialism” of the philosopher, there is explicitly and implicitly an appeal to the need for “the correct naming of historical events” and the need for “understanding historical eventfulness” as a crystallization of the authentic meaning of history and existence.
