The object of the research is the electronic catalog of periodicals as a component of the electronic bibliographic resources of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU). The subject of the study is the formation and use of the electronic catalog of periodicals of the VNLU in the library and bibliographic service system of the scientific library. The purpose of the article is to describe the scientific characteristics of the electronic catalog of periodicals of the VNLU, to determine its role in remote library and information services, to substantiate the relevance of its further formation and development. Methodological basis of research: analysis, synthesis, historical, terminological, comparative, generalizing approaches. Scientific novelty. Expanding professional ideas about the essence and functions of electronic resources of own generation using the example of the electronic catalog of periodicals; determination of the range of possibilities of its use in the system of library and bibliographic services; outlining directions for its further development as a component of electronic bibliographic resources of a scientific library. Conclusions. Involvement of the electronic catalog of periodicals in everyday virtual library and bibliographic practice determines the optimization of scientific, educational, industrial, cultural, educational and other social processes and turns into an important factor of domestic innovative development. The experience of creating and maintaining the electronic catalog of periodicals of the VNLU will contribute to the formation of bibliographic and search systems. It improves their quality and efficiency of use, contribute to the implementation of the latest strategy for the formation of a branch reference and bibliographic resource, and increase the level of satisfaction of scientific and informational professional needs of users, which will have an impact on the intensity of development in Ukraine of scientific thought. Practical significance and prospects. Further plans include researching the information and search capabilities of the electronic catalog of periodicals of the VNLU EC and the forms of library and bibliographic service for users based on its content, as well as outlining the ways of the scientific library's further strategy for the formation and use of its own generation database.
