When one studies the meaning of Septuagint quotations in the New Testament, one should distinguish three hermeneutical realms: that of the meaning of a Hebrew text in its context, that of the meaning of the Septuagint text as produced by its translator, and that of the later interpretation of the Septuagint text by New Testament authors for their context. This article will illustrate these principles with two examples.
