The purpose of this research is to improve one aspect of language development, namely recognizing consonant letters through the phonics method in children aged 5-6 years. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with data analysis techniques, namely quantitative descriptive. The research subjects were 20 students using the research method, namely the phonics method, which consists of two cycles, each cycle contains four stages, namely 1. planning, 2. Action, 3. observation and 4. reflection. The results of the research carried out show that the activity of recognizing consonant letters through the phonics method with the help of letter cards can improve children's early reading abilities, with pre-cycle results of 45%, cycle I 65%, cycle II 90% , so that in classroom action research carried out using the phonics method produces positive results in improving children's early reading skills.
