The article examines the experience of using amateur organizations of convicts in the penitentiary institution, accumulated in domestic penitentiary practice, which can be used in modern conditions when organizing educational work in the field of penitentiary probation. Spiritual and moral education, physical and professional development of convicts, maintenance of law and order and discipline in penal institutions, organization of work, useful spending of free time are just some examples of the positive influence of amateur organizations in the penal institution. The purpose of the study was to identify and substantiate the organizational, legal, psychological and pedagogical aspects used by amateur organizations in the correction of convicts, which can be adapted in modern conditions of modern penitentiary probation. To achieve this goal, natural scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, statistical data obtained, including empirically, were used. Taking into account the process of organization and functioning of probation in the Russian Federation, the presence of legal innovations in the conditions of the formation of penitentiary probation, such forms of education of convicts as club and circle work are considered. The result of the study was a generalization of the domestic penitentiary experience of the activities of amateur organizations and institutions, which could be used in modern conditions of the development of criminal justice, reflected in departmental legal acts.
