Fathoming Empire: Marine Knowledge and Colonial Navigation in an Indigenous Seascape, 1825–1907

The following introduces the author’s doctoral research on histories of marine knowledge and colonial navigation in the Pacific Northwest. The author provides an overview of his dissertation, describing its central arguments, and discusses preliminary findings from his ICCS-supported archival research in Washington, D.C.
