The article is devoted to revealing the potential of Roman law in legal education. Competent, professional experts in law are the guarantee of the legal culture of the state, which depends on tolerance, equality and justice in society. Such people strive for qualitative changes and are able to actively and consciously act for the benefit of the state. Therefore, legal experts who have a broad outlook, moral values and high-quality legal knowledge are the potential and resource that can lead Ukraine to economic, political, and legal development. In turn, the task of the state is to stimulate this development and ensure their decent legal upbringing. Legal education is possible thanks to many factors, one of which is education. The study of Roman law proved that, thanks to Roman law, the student can trace the age-old transformation of law and at the same time see the immutability of the main legal values, which are designed to protect a person, his life and freedom. It is noted that high quality legal education is impossible without deep legal knowledge of rights, assimilation of legal ideas and dogmas. In order to solve the defined tasks regarding the legal education of lawyers, the decisive role must be assigned to Roman law, thanks to which the foundation for the formation of the legal culture of students and society in particular is laid. In order for Ukraine to develop as a legal state and as a civil society, the formation of a new, higher level of legal awareness and legal culture of the population is significant. In this context, the quality of legal education and legal upbringing is of great importance. High quality legal education is impossible without deep legal knowledge, assimilation of legal ideas and dogmas. In order to solve the defined tasks regarding the legal education of lawyers, the decisive role must be assigned to Roman law, thanks to which the foundation for the formation of the legal culture of students and society in particular is laid. Roman private law is designed to solve many problems, namely the formation in students of: law-making, law-making practice through the assimilation of characteristic scientific trends and regularities of the evolution of law, which can be traced on the example of Roman law; a legal culture of the European type, which will provide an opportunity for citizens to integrate into the European and global legal space in order to realize their private and public interests; socially significant legal experience of Roman civilization, which could be realized in skills, knowledge and creative legal activity; a positive attitude to the law as a value and assistance in professional activity to realize oneself as a person with lawful behavior; legal literacy through the ability to solve practical problems in the legal field, which arises on the basis of acquiring new legal knowledge from Roman law; legal respect through understanding one's rights and obligations and the ability to reasonably, rationally, competently assess any conflict situation; legal intuition, thanks to which the future specialist will make legal and fair decisions; legal style through the study of theoretical and methodological aspects of Roman law; legal improvement with the corresponding formation of deontological attitudes, which will later become a catalyst for honest, conscientious professional activity; the student's conceptual apparatus through mastering legal concepts, presumptions and legal traditions and habits that arose in Roman law; a sense of belonging to the European community through the formation of an understanding of justice and legality; needs for legal improvement through the study of institutes of legal science, which were formed in ancient Rome; of legal prognosticism through the study of the reception of Roman law in the law of European states.
