Becoming a Cosmopolitan as a Democratic Citizen: Necessity for climate crisis response education

This article, in order to become a cosmopolitan as a democratic citizen in today’s globalization era, attempted to emphasize the necessity of climate crisis response education on the global warming problem as the most critical and urgent issue for us. Until now, humans have not escaped the national narrative of thinking as beings granted the right to use natural resources indefinitely. However, today’s human beings, who have formed a relationship with the world that sheds all sense of belonging due to the rapid development of science, are faced with the world’s total problems. In particular, the problem of global warming is the most serious problem among them, and it will lead to the crisis that humans will be expelled from the Earth. Therefore, humans are at a crossroads whether to accept this issue as the mission of the times or the fate of the times. The international community has set goals for sustainable development for the continuation of mankind and promised to implement them by 2030. Climate change is currently a common concern for humanity, and it is a problem that all nation-states must bear a common responsibility to urgently address the negative effects of climate change. The climate crisis cannot be a matter of just giving up if you cannot get over it. More education is required to have an opportunity to seriously consider this matter. The climate crisis could endanger everything about us, including democracy. Without democracy, it would be difficult to even attempt to solve the problems we face. As long as democracy aims for a better system and always finds ways to improve it, if we all become cosmopolitan as democratic citizens, we will be able to demonstrate actions beyond individual responsibility for a better world for future generations.
