Peru is the world’s second-largest producer of coca after Colombia. Impacts The Devida figures provide only a rough guide to cocaine production but this appears not to have declined. Production in border areas is increasingly in the hands of foreign operators. Poverty in the highlands will continue to stimulate migration to coca-producing areas.
