The evolving dynamism of the educational system has raised the need for leadership practice among teachers. Teacher leadership has become one of the important concepts in schools to improve student outcomes and school achievement. Teachers are important figures who have a positive impact on student excellence. Teachers are also a source of knowledge and experience in developing and realizing collaboration between teachers and their environment productively. However, there are challenges that teachers need to address in preparing themselves to be teacher leaders. This concept paper explores the perspectives and challenges of teacher leadership to foster a leadership culture among teachers. A literature review shows that some teachers are still vague about their roles and responsibilities as teacher leaders. Therefore, principals and administrators should play a role in fostering a leadership culture and making teachers aware of their role in teacher leadership. This is an important effort for school development and student outcomes. It is also hoped that this concept paper can provide some new insights to researchers of teacher leadership practices in the future.
