This paper deeply analyzes the ant colony algorithm and its application basis in routing optimization, and clarifies the principle of the ant colony algorithm and its importance to WSN routing optimization. The basic workflow of the ant colony algorithm is summarized in detail, including the key technical points such as the pheromone update mechanism and the path selection strategy, which lays a theoretical foundation for the subsequent improvement of the algorithm. Then, the current research status and existing challenges of wireless sensor network routing optimization are comprehensively analyzed, including energy efficiency, network life cycle, data transmission reliability and so on. The comparative analysis indicates the shortcomings of existing studies in routing strategy, algorithm efficiency and adaptability. After research and analysis, a wireless sensor network (WSN) routing optimization scheme integrating ant colony algorithm is constructed, and the significant advantages of this model in improving WSN routing efficiency are verified through experiments. The performance advantage of the improved algorithm is further confirmed by the comparison and discussion of the results.
