The articleanalyzes various approaches to the definition of employment of the population, based on the characteristics of various theories of employment. Special attention is paid to the factors that should be taken into account when defining employment in Russia, such as the form of employment, working conditions, earnings and social guarantees. The results of the study allow us to better understand the essence of employment as a social, economic, demographic and legal category.
