This work describes a new system that is designed to automatically select a phase voltage at a given time from the utility supply that best fits the load requirement and to automatically changeover to a Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) as standby source of supply if the required voltage is not among the three phases from the utility supply. The mitigation of the challenges of phase failure or total power outage is the main focus of this work. The new system has four sensing units, out of which three are for the three phases and the fourth is for the standby power source, to provide the controller with the necessary input signals for its operation. The controller processes the input signals and gives a single output signal at a particular time to one of the four relays thereby closing the contact of the contactor which creates the necessary connection between the load and the required voltage. The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is used in this system which displays the level of the phases and the phase in use at a particular time. The microcontroller is being powered by a 5V regulated DC source of supply.
