The disparity in mental health symptom prevalence between the transgender and cisgender populations can be more accurately described as a vast chasm instead of a gap. Transgender individuals experience suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, NSSI, eating disorders, mood disorders, and substance use disorders at rates multiple times higher than the cisgender population. These outcomes are best accounted for within the framework of the Minority Stress Model. The transdiagnositic approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an ideal treatment candidate for the transgender population’s symptoms of exposure to minority stress. Novel adaptations for the six components of psychological flexibility will be presented.
