The article discusses participatory design as an interdisciplinary practice of interaction with the educational spatial environment. The directions of researchers approach to practice of social design both in context of organizing the space of the urban environment and the educational landscape are highlighted. The content aspects of the phenomenon of participatory design are indicated, attention is focused on the understanding of participatory design as a tool for actualizing subjectivity in interaction with both the educational spatial environment and the educational environment as a socio-ecological system. The resourse role of participatory design as a practice of interaction with a spatial educational environment for the development of activity and independence of subjects is noted. It is emphasized that one of the possible methodological formats for the study of participatory design as a practice of interaction with the educational spatial environment can be the ecopsychological approach and the typology of subject-environment interactions.
