The article is devoted to the review of the history of Kharkiv's development by Orthodox churches in the 1950s and 1970s.Special attention is paid to the architects who designed the specified temples, the style in which they were made outside and inside (paintings and iconostasis), the bishops who consecrated them, the prerequisites for the emergence of these temples and their future fate.At that time, a number of temples were built, which were an important part of the public and religious life of the city. These are the Holy Spirit, Truncation of John the Baptist and Aleksandr Nevsky (in Zaikivka) churches, chapels in honor of Alexander Nevsky and the Ozeryan icon of the Mother of God (hereinafter the church of the same name), as well as churches in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist, Transformation of God, Ascension of God, St. Peter and Paul and Trinity churches.Of the listed buildings, only 4 churches have been fully preserved and are functioning. The rest, unfortunately, did not survive either because of the terror of the Soviet totalitarian regime, or during the Second World War, as a result of which many religious, residential and administrative buildings of Kharkiv were damaged. The article concludes that this period of Kharkiv's history can be called, without exaggeration, the beginning of the heyday of the city's religious development. Many churches appeared at that time. Some of them have survived to this day, but unfortunately not all.The style of the churches built during this period is either Russian-Byzantine or eclectic. All the surviving churches have the status of architectural and urban planning monuments. As such, churches are beacons that guide people and help them not to get lost in the whirlwind of worldly affairs and not to forget about their souls. Therefore, it is very important to protect them and treat them with reverence.Kharkiv, both in the Актуальні питання у сучасній науці № 8( 26) 2024 1035 second half of the nineteenth century and today, was and still is a city with many different religious movements.Nevertheless, Orthodox Christianity was and still is the dominant denomination, represented by many churches. This indicates that people respect the memory of their ancestors and go to the churches of the branch of Christianity that their ancestors went to.This is also a very important aspect of our life. The article is intended to bring back from oblivion the memory of those temples that were finally lost, and to remind about the difficult and ancient history of those that survived.
