This study aimed to synthesize the meaning of lifelong learning experiences and provide basic data on lifelong learning for the elderly by targeting qualitative studies that explored the meaning of lifelong learning participation experiences of elderly learners. Qualitative studies on the learning experiences of elderly learners were selected through a screening process targeting academic papers in the field of lifelong learning. Next, the research results of the papers were comprehensively compared and analyzed through qualitative meta-synthesis. As a result of the study, seven comprehensive themes were derived. 1. ‘Changes in conflict and difficulties’, 2. ‘Help in maintaining health’, 3. ‘Expansion of positive emotionality’, 4. ‘Continuous participation’, 5. ‘Harmony of coexistence and symbiosis’, 6. ‘Process for self-realization’, 7. ‘Expression of subjective life’. The conclusions are as follows. First, participation in lifelong learning has multidimensional usefulness for the elderly. Second, the formation of self-identity and the promotion of community are in a companion relationship. Third, they are beings who can grow as subjects of the community.
