The article covers the history of the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) from the 1930 s to the present day. It reveals details of the organization and conditions of work during construction, including prison labor, labor shortages, and food problems. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the formation of a new society based on communist ideology during the construction of the BAM, as well as the impact of the project on the development of the economy and social sphere of the region. The main idea of the article is that the construction of the BAM was not only an important economic project, but also had a deep socio-cultural and political context, exerting a significant influence on the formation of a new social environment and values in society. The construction of the BAM is presented as an international people’s construction project that united more than 70 nationalities, which is extremely important in the history of Russia. The article also touches on the prospective development of the project, mentioning modernization and the future third stage of the BAM construction.
