Finite commutative semigroups S (akin to the better known group case) have a neat structure as well. Apart from a trimmed proof of the general framework, the structural details of many concrete f. c. semigroups S are unraveled. They come in two types. First, the subtle multiplicative semigroups (Zₙ, ) (as opposed to their bland siblings (Zₙ, +) ). Second, semigroups defined by generators and relations. Altogether six open questions stimulate further research.
