An attempt is made to clarify the semantics of the concept of “information”. Approaches to understanding information in the discourses of the exact sciences, cognitive science and modern theology are analyzed. It is proposed to consider information as a kind of polyontic entity that finds expression and is articulated in many different discourses through an interdisciplinary dialogue. The ontological foundations and epistemological content of the concepts of “knowledge” and “information” are considered. An ontological contradiction of the nature of information is shown: information gravitates towards matter, for information the connection with the material is more pronounced than for knowledge, despite the fact that the source that generates it has a spiritual nature.
