The article provides an analysis of the document circulation that occurred during the period of Risorgimento as a result of the diplomatic relations between Italy, including the Vatican, and the Russian empire. The funds of the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire (AFPRE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were examined and individual documents giving an idea of close diplomatic and intercultural relations between the two countries were analyzed and put into scientific circulation for the first time. In addition, the materials of the Russian State Historical Archive (Petersburg), also concerning the established links between the Russian Empire and the Papal States, were analyzed and for the first time introduced into scientific circulation.
