The article discloses modern requirements for combat readiness of future military servicemen in the conditions of modern war in Ukraine. The general tasks and importance of physical training of cadets as a factor in improving the combat capability of the officers of the Ukrainian army are clarified. Іt was determined that despite the different proportion of direct physical work and the specific orientation of the work movements of military specialists of various profiles, the effectiveness of their combat actions is somehow related to the level of physical fitness. First of all, this is due to the effect of physical training on increasing the body's functional reserves, resistance to adverse environmental factors and military service.Іt has been established that more physically trained servicemen perform their professional duties better, faster, more efficiently and more accurately on the battlefield in dangerous conditions. The level of general physical fitness of cadets of higher military educational institutions at various training courses (n=428) was studied based on the results of running 100 m, pulling up on a crossbar and running 3 km. The obtained results were compared with the indicators of cadets who are members of various sports sections (n=165), differences in the development of physical qualities of cadets engaged in strength exercises and sports games were established. In general, a high level of general physical fitness of senior year cadets and cadet athletes has been established, which indicates the sufficient efficiency of the current system of physical training in higher military educational institutions and its compliance with modern requirements for the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
