The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the education system, leading to the implementation of a modular approach to education in many countries. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by Grade 10 students in learning mathematics through this approach in the Philippines. The study involved 63 students, and data were collected using a self-made questionnaire validated by a psychometrician and panel members. The results revealed that the modular approach to education had a negative impact on the academic performance of Grade 10 students in mathematics, and financial problems, lack of resources, lack of family support, attitude towards the subject, and personal adjustment were identified as the main challenges that hindered their academic performance. Moreover, the use of English as a Second Language in the teaching instruction negatively impacted students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Based on these findings, the study recommended that the school administration and policymakers should provide financial assistance for internet connectivity and load, improve the availability of resources, encourage and support family involvement in their children's learning, consider students' language needs, and provide appropriate teaching strategies. The study provides important insights into the challenges faced by Grade 10 students during the pandemic and the impact of the modular approach to education on their academic performance in mathematics.
