Consumption of areca nut and tobacco, often initiated in adolescence, are important causes of oral cancers in India. Areca nut prevention, often subsumed into school tobacco prevention programs, assumes that users are similar. However, differences in gender or age of users could necessitate unique approaches. The study aimed to find if adolescent areca nut-only users are different from tobacco-only users and users of both areca and tobacco.
