The article discusses the formation of students' professional competencies using tasks related to their specialties in teaching mathematics. The general and professional competencies of future specialists, the conditions for their formation are noted. The general competencies that graduates of a vocational school will have are indicated. To form the professional competencies of students in teaching mathematics, the program offered professionally oriented tasks on specific topics. It is assumed that a deep mastering of mathematics in vocational education will ensure the formation of professional competencies of future specialists. After all, one of the main components in the process of training specialists is the formation of their mathematical competencies. Thus, the professional competence of a future specialist is a special type of organized subject-specific knowledge that allows effective decision-making in the relevant activity. Competence is the ability of a graduate to independently apply theoretical knowledge, skills, a set of personal qualities and practical experience to achieve success in a particular area of professional activity.
