Acne is caused by hyperproliferation of the Propionobacterium acnes (P. acnes) bacteria which causes frustration and embarrassment for sufferers. Treatment using topical antibiotics is reported to cause resistance, so the use of natural ingredients in the form of Carica papaya L. leaves has great potential because papaya leaves contain chemical compounds that are antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. The antibacterial compounds found in papaya leaves include tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids and saponins. Apart from that, papaya leaves contain vitamins C and E. Purification is carried out to remove ballast substances contained in the extract. To make it easier to use, it is formulated in a topical dosage form, namely emulgel. Apart from being easy to apply, emulgel is also able to provide a cooling sensation which can reduce inflammation in acne. The aim of this research is to formulate a purified fraction emulgel preparation from papaya leaves which has the ability to act as an anti-acne. The research was carried out experimentally, including extraction, purification, formulation and evaluation of the preparation. Evaluation of the preparation includes organoleptic tests, pH tests, homogeneity tests, spreadability tests, adhesion tests and irritation tests in rabbits. Studies show that there is no change in shape, color and odor after 21 days of storage; the preparation shows a pH range of 5.9- 6.1; homogeneity test shows the preparation is homogeneous; has a spreadability of 5.73-6.25 cm so the emulgel is easy to apply; adhesive power range 07:40- 09:09 s; irritation test showed no redness and swelling on the skin of the test animal. It can be concluded that the purified fraction of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) can be formulated into an emulgel that is stable during storage and does not irritate.
