The research article examines the image of Kunanbay in a combination of historical reality and artistic reality. The purpose of the article is a comparative analysis of the historical transmission of the image of Kunanbay Uskenbaevich and its embodiment in a work of art. The theoretical and practical significance of the study is manifested in the comparison of the historical and artistic character of the image of Kunanbay Uskenbaevich with the identification of factors influencing the creation of the image in the work. The research methodology is based on the opinions of some scientists. The image of Kunanbay Uskenbaily in the epic novel by M. Auezov “The Path of Abai” and the novel by Khams R. Tokhtarov “Abai’s Mystery” were compared. The research article uses comparative, analytical, analyzing, descriptive, source analysis, and comparative historical methods. According to the results of the study, the influence of political views, censorship, the author's position, and the author’s interests of that period were revealed, although historical events formed the basis for creating the image of Kunanbay Uskenbaiuly in a work of art. The value of the research is manifested in the consideration of the historical character and artistic embodiment of the image of Kunanbay Uskenbaiuly. Thus, the study analyzed scientific views on the image of Kunanbay Uskenbaiuly. In scientific terms, the research article differs in that the combination of historical truth and artistic truth in the image of Kunanbay was formed as a result of the interests of the author, and the author’s position. The conclusions of the research article are intended for use in the research of Kunanbay Uskenbaiuly, in the field of Abai studies.
