The aim of this study is to analyze the development of 148 studies published in the Web of Science (WOS) database on the concept of metacognition in mathematics education between 1999 and 2023. The keywords most commonly used by plus, authors, titles and abstracts, citations, indices, countries' scientific productivity, and authors' collaborations were analyzed and visualized with bibliometrix, a package of the R-Studio programme, developed and written via the R language. The results of the analyses indicate that the journal in which the most studies are published is Zdm-Mathematics Education, the most contributing author is "Desoete, A." Accordingly, the most popular keyword used by the active authors is "metacognition". In addition, it is noteworthy that the most popular keyword in the database of the publications in which the concept of metacognition in mathematics education is studied is students, and the journal Zdm-Mathematics Education ranks first according to the h, g and m indices. When we look at the prominent countries of the publications in the field, Germany comes first, followed by the USA and China.
