Abstract The integration of Internet of things (IoT) and optical networks represents a significant evolution in modern communication systems. Optical networks, known for their high bandwidth and low latency, can provide the necessary backbone to support the vast data exchange required by IoT devices. This paper explores the potential of combining IoT with optical networks, analyzing how this convergence can enhance connectivity, increase performance, and tackle the growing demands of future smart environments. Challenges, opportunities, and future directions for this integration are discussed, alongside case studies and applications that showcase the benefits of such an integrated approach.
